In 1856, a Ky owned slave entered the Ohio river, in hopes to reach Newburgh, In. She swam quietly, a lantern in one hand, her child in the other. She had almost made it across when her child cried out. In fear of being caught, she had no other choice than to silence her child by putting him under water. People say sometimes on a moonless night, you can see her with her lantern, searching for her lost son.
